RIOT police in Addis Ababa fired guns and threw grenades yesterday to quell a second day of protests against Ethiopia's parliamentary elections.
Police killed at least 33 people and wounded dozens more, a rights group said. It followed clashes on Tuesday in which eight people died.
The elections gave Meles Zenawi's Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front control of nearly two-thirds of parliament.
Opposition parties claim the process was marred by fraud, intimidation and violence, and accused the ruling party of rigging the elections.
